Floral Displays
Barnard Castle Town Council is responsible for the main floral displays within the Town, situated in the Town Centre as well as upper Galgate, The Bank and Bridgegate.
In 2009, the Town Council assumed responsibility for the floral tubs previously looked after by Teesdale Marketing and the tubs are now planted twice each year with both a Summer and Winter/Spring display.
In addition to our contribution, The Barney Guild arranges for many local businesses to have hanging baskets on building frontages and Durham County Council provides some individual free-standing displays.
During 2010-11, a full review of the future floral provision within the Town was undertaken by the Floral and Open Spaces Working Group and the Summer of 2011 saw the introduction of a more concentrated floral display in lower Galgate with the addition of new tubs. It is hoped that further improvements can be made some time in the future.
In addition, the two Welcome signs located at the entrance to Barnard Castle at the County Bridge and in upper Galgate were replaced (paid for by a local resident). The Working Group believe that the signs give an important message, particularly to those visiting the Town.
